BACP is seeking to appoint a Lead Advisor for Northern Ireland to collect, analyse and disseminate information on counselling and psychotherapy across the country.

BACP is currently seeking information from its Northern Ireland members to help inform its work with the DHSSPS on the Psychological Therapies Strategy Implementation Group on Primary Care Counsellors and Voluntary and Community Sector Providers of Counselling in Northern Ireland. They have been asked by the Northern Ireland Psychological Therapies Group to produce a report for their next meeting in September based on the results of these surveys. If you have already completed one or both of these surveys then you do not need to complete the survey again, your responses will be incorporated into the report.
Dragging your heels on BACP Accreditation

In response to the recent BACP ‘Making Connections in Belfast’ event and Dr Lynne Gabriel’s article in ‘Therapy Today’ (May issue), Zest for Life Counselling Services will be facilitating a ‘BACP Accreditation Group’ commencing on Tuesday 30th August 2011.
The group will meet for 2.5 hours each month on the following dates; 30th August, 27th September, 25th October, and 29th November.

BACP rule Christian counsellor’s attempt to cure gay man as ‘unethical’

A Christian psychotherapist who tried to convert a gay man to become heterosexual has been found guilty of professional misconduct.
Lesley Pilkington was criticised by the professional body for counsellors after an undercover journalist posing as a patient secretly recorded her during a therapy session at her home.
