Free Training Course – An Introduction to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: Assessment and Basic Interventions

The Northern Ireland Centre for Trauma & Transformation (NICTT) are offering a FREE training course on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in Belfast and L’Derry in June and September 2010.

This course is designed for practitioners working in the victims and mental health sectors voluntary and community in Northern Ireland who wish to know more about the impact of trauma on mental health.

The course will be experiential and interactive and will cover:

  • The impact of trauma
  • The natural course of PTSD
  • Risk and maintenance factors for PTSD
  • Basic assessment, diagnosis and the use of rating scales
  • A simple cognitive model of PTSD
  • How you can intervene using your current skills

This course is supported by the OFMDFM. There will be no charge to participants.

The two day course will be held in two separate venues to facilitate mutual inconvenience. Attendance at both days is required in order to successfully complete the course. The cost of teaching, venue hire, materials and lunch/tea/coffee is provided. The course will run from 9.30 to 4.30 each day. The dates and venues are:

Derry/Londonderry – Friday 11th June & Thursday 24th June – St Columb’s Park House Clooney Road

Belfast – Friday 18th June & Friday 25th June – Hopelink Centre Carlisle Circus

Belfast – Friday 10th September & Friday 24th September – Hopelink Centre, Carlisle Circus

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis only.
